Week six and the journey continues, this week with the departure of Kevin and the arrival of our eldest sister Deborah. The week began with a journey to Marken Island which is a small island (recently connected to the mainland by a land bridge) that is composed of small fishing villages and it maintains many of it's cultural traditions. The next day, which was kevins last day there, they toured the Van Gogh Museum which Patrick greatly enjoyed. After several hours at the museum it was onto a tour of the city by boat-as they took a 75 minute journey along with some Australian and British tourists. From looking at the pictures below, a good time was had by all. They finished the day with Kevin doing some last minute shopping.
Patrick saw Kevin off at the Central Train Station and got him on the right train to the airport. Though Patrick was sad to see his friend go, he was excited to get to spent quality time with our sister Deborah. First order of business-"teaching Deborah my anal rules about riding a bicycle in Amsterdam..." It's so cute that my little brother is looking out for his big sister.
They spent the next few dreary gray rainy days exploring the local outdoor markets and the local department store De Bijenkorf (The Beehive). They also took a shopping excursion to the local grocery store, near where they're staying, and Deborah loved it-perhaps a little too much, "...I had to keep putting things back on the shelves" stated Patrick. In the end though, Deborah cooked dinner that night for them both and they relaxed at home that evening.
